Dear Sirs,
Subject: Recommendation for Yaakov Ferdman – Nomination for Lifetime Achievement Award
We would like to warmly recommend Mr. Yaakov Ferdman as a candidate for the Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his exceptional and ongoing contribution to Israeli fencing, the advancement of young athletes, and making the Western Galilee a center of excellence in competitive sports.
Mr. Ferdman, a native of Polotsk, Belarus, immigrated to Israel in 1990 after an impressive professional career as a fencer and coach of the Belarus national épée fencing team. Upon his arrival in Israel, he immediately began to integrate into leading Israeli fencing. He began his professional career in the country in Acre with Haim Hatuel, and later moved to Maalot-Tarshiha, where he left a deep and extensive mark.
In 1994, he founded the Maccabi Maalot Fencing Club, which under his management became one of the leading and most successful clubs in the history of Israeli sports. The club's achievements include winning over 34 medals at World and European Youth and Cadet Championships, dozens of medals at World Cups, and hundreds of titles at Israeli Championships. Yaakov Ferdman succeeded in establishing a first-class educational-competitive system, in which generations of outstanding athletes have grown, many of whom are members of Israeli national teams.
Mr. Ferdman's contribution is not only in the field of training and achievements. He built a unique physical and professional infrastructure, including the establishment of accommodation for training camps and the development of an Olympic Excellence Center approved by the Elite Sports Unit. His activities promoted not only local athletes but also international collaborations with teams from abroad.
