Hanukkah Cup in Fencing, initiated by Maalot Fencing Club
The competition took place on Friday, December 12, 2025, and brought to Maalot a day of sports, community and a special experience for all participants
Details
The competition included 57 fencers from categories: veterans, under 14, under 12, and under 10. The competition day flowed smoothly and pleasantly, allowing athletes, families, and the audience to enjoy the event throughout.

Silver Medal at the World Cup in Épée in Vancouver
Dov Velensky (Maccabi Maalot) won the silver medal at the World Cup in épée in Vancouver, Canada – an exceptional and inspiring achievement.
Details
On the first day of competition, Dov advanced to the round of 64, and from there continued to record an impressive series of victories:
- In the round of 32, he defeated world-ranked #5, Japanese fencer Komata Akira, with a score of 15:10
- In the round of 16, he defeated Luxembourg's Giannotto Flavio, with a score of 15:9
- In the quarterfinals, he confidently defeated Russian fencer Shvelidze Dmitry (under neutral flag), with a score of 15:6
- In the semifinals, he defeated world-ranked #20, Hungarian fencer Andrasfi Tibor, with a score of 15:12
- On the way to the final, he overcame world-ranked #8, Italian fencer Glasi Matteo, with a score of 15:13
In the final, he faced the Olympic bronze medalist from Paris 2024, Egyptian fencer Elsayed Mohamed, ranked #6 in the world, and lost with a score of 15:5 – thus finishing the competition with a prestigious silver medal.
Dov, who trains at the National Training Center and resides at the Wingate Institute, represents an example of talent, perseverance, and determination.
Dov, who was previously ranked 147th in the world, is expected to jump to the top 50. The competition included 276 participants.
